Some of the activities gave me the opportunity to take my children out, meet other families and create happy memories together, which was very meaningful to me as a mother.

As a single mother, there were times when I felt emotionally exhausted and felt like I was carrying everything by myself, so having people who would listen to me and treat me with kindness made a big difference.

I really appreciated that ABC offered more than just practical support because it also gave people opportunities to socialise, make connections and feel part of the community, which can be very important when you are new to a country.

Since becoming connected with ABC, I feel much less alone and more connected to the community around me. I have met people from different countries and cultures, taken part in activities and events, and had positive experiences with my children that I will always remember.

My life still has challenges, but I feel that I have grown stronger through everything I have experienced, and having ABC as part of my journey has helped me a lot. I am still focused on looking after my two children and building a better and more stable life for our family, but I no longer feel that I have to face everything completely alone. I know there is a community around me and people I can approach when I need support, and I am very grateful for that.

I would especially like to thank the ABC team for their kindness, patience and understanding, because sometimes even a simple conversation or having someone genuinely listen can mean so much when you are going through a difficult period.

Hana’s Testimonial

My journey with ABC started when I was advised, as a single mother and asylum seeker, to visit ABC for support. At first, I did not know what to expect, but after I started going there and getting to know the team, I gradually felt more comfortable and welcomed. ABC always made me feel listened to and understood.

As time passed, I realised that ABC was not just a place where people could get practical help; it was a community where people from different countries, cultures and language backgrounds could come together and feel accepted.

As I became more familiar with ABC, I started taking part in different activities, events and trips, and I also learned about services such as the women's groups, drop-in support, free shop, connections and crisis support.
